Clothing in the Arab World

This short video discusses the cultural significance and sense of identity associated with clothing in the Arab World, using Qatar as an example.

Traditional clothing often signifies a cultural or religious identify for the wearer. Some Qataris choose to wear western style clothing either at home or while abroad, but the cultural connection to traditional clothing is strong. Many see the thobe and abaya as formal or business attire and thus wear them for important occasions. Veils are often a misunderstood component of traditional clothing, this video offers a local perspective on why some women veil.
