Understanding the Refugee Crisis - What Would You Bring?

Through this lesson plan, students will independently brainstorm preconceptions about refugees, explore refugee narratives in a whole group and small groups, and compare and contrast the Syrian refugee crisis with other historical examples of migration and displacement.

Although this lesson plan was designed for the elementary level, it can be easily adapted to be implemented at the middle and high school levels as well.

This resource was created during a QFI-sponsored workshop, in collaboration with the University of Oklahoma, the National Council for History Education, and Georgetown University's Institute for the Study of International Migration, "The Middle East Refugee Crisis in Historical Context: Teaching for Understanding" held June 21-23, 2016 in Norman, Oklahoma
