In this webinar, Oliver Hopwood draws on his experience integrating teaching and learning about culture in French and German to pupils in British schools and applies the techniques to Arabic. He shows how cultural learning is as important as linguistic learning and that the Arabic language lesson should be an opportunity to share Arab concerns and interests and to explore the cultural identities of the Arabic speaking peoples.
Oliver shares examples from his own practice using vocabulary, music videos, art and photography, and cultural texts and shows how he uses them to enhance British students’ understanding and appreciation of Arab culture and bring it alive for them.
Oliver Hopwood is a teacher of French, German, and Arabic at Westminster School. He has taught in a variety of schools across London and his passion is how to embed culture within the language-learning classroom.
